Abstract:
Museums and public libraries both celebrate lifelong learning and cultural awareness. Shrinking budgets and economic concerns are bridging divides in communities as more cultural institutions recognize the need to reach out to organizations that value its services. Partnerships between museums and public libraries provide opportunities to reach new audiences and promote each institution’s unique offerings. An overview of national collaboration between museums and public libraries in both urban and rural areas will be presented. Best practices for museums interested in forming working relationships with public libraries will be shared. Digital media and open source tools for enhancing services will also be discussed.
