Unconference Session Proposals

Page history last edited by Amanda French 13 years, 5 months ago

Running concurrently with MCN 2010's programmed sessions 28-30 Oct, ThatCamp MCN accepts unconference session proposals up until the day the session happens! What is an unconference?

The difference from the programmed conference sessions is that though the general topic of the unconference sessions is confirmed, the exact content and focus will be determined on the day by the session leader(s) in conjunction with attendees.

Please list your proposed sessions below, and create new pages linked from your session name to provide more detail and get further feedback.

Invited unconference sessions include:

  1. Museums and Drupal: A Survey of the Field
  2. Museums, Mobile & Augmented Reality: Redefining the Museum Experience
  3. Building map guides with open source tools and content
  4. Build an Online Collecting Site
  5. Ways to Tap the Wisdom of Crowds
  6. Refining the Plow: Revisiting Working Rapid Capture Digital Workflows
  7. Visualizing Museum Collections

I'd like to have a discussion about how to decide whether to use a 3rd party platform (like YouTube, Flickr, Pandora) and when to build our own for a given Institution or for the museum community at large (e.g. ArtBabble): what are the criteria and issues we need to think through when making this decision? What are the advantages & drawbacks of each?

During the unconference, I am talking about ways to use open source map data (from OpenStreetMap, elsewhere) and open content (e.g. from Wikipedia) and mash it up.

If people are interested in mapping and how to collect data, I would like to do a workshop or what we call a "mapping party". I think the conference schedule is already quite packed, so not sure if I want it to be during the conference (e.g. Saturday) or after (e.g. on Sunday morning).

1) is there interest?
2) can people come on Sunday morning? or would people prefer Saturday?
